SPIDER - Pakistan's Internet Magazine. About SPIDER Our Team
SPIDER, Pakistan's Internet magazine, is a joint venture between XIBER.COM and the Dawn Group of Newspapers. Launched in December 1998, the magazine created a unique niche in the publishing market for itself as an Internet magazine - a lead others have followed. This website, accompanies the magazine. The website solicits reader feedback, opinions and submissions, as well as allowing them to provide their own experiences with the Web and tell their stories in a quick and interactive way - through e-mail. The SPIDER editorial team have at their disposal a rich collection of users' first-hand knowledge, their tips, their interests, favorite sites, their comments and criticisms of the magazine. In this way, SPIDER is able to grow and evolve, while reflecting the interests and aspirations of Pakistan's Internet population.
Target audience
SPIDER is aimed at Internet users all over Pakistan, whether they are beginners, Internet-savvy, or Web wizards. Whiz kids between the 12 to 25 age bracket are not our only concern. We hear regularly from policy makers as well as housewives and silver surfers. Readers e-mail us with critical feedback about where SPIDER should be looking for innovative ideas. Just see how diverse our writers are. Our youngest contributor is as 'old' as 13 and our oldest contributor is too modest to disclose exactly how 'young' he is (safe to say, well above 50).
Content
The monthly magazine carries cover stories and feature articles on the development of the Internet and how it affects Pakistanis. It includes articles from some of the world's leading technology gurus and the best names in the Pakistani IT scene. In addition, we keep policy makers and leaders in the telecommunications industry abreast of issues that are of interest to consumers and professionals alike.
Some of the issues we focus on include Internet access, regulation, usage and potential. We do not restrict our focus to Pakistan but also include content from our South Asian partners such as BytesForAll.org (an electronic news bulletin service at: www.bytesforall.org). Our panel includes contributing editors and writers who cover features based in Pakistan and abroad (UK, US, and Canada). We also receive considerable input from Pakistanis based in the Silicon Valley, US and our readers who take to writing frequently, and getting published.
Regular sections on business and technology, family issues, entertainment, games and science highlight the latest sites emerging on the Web. Website reviews as featured in our Top 5 column rate Pakistani sites according to design, content, and links, and show readers the best of what's out there from amateurs and professionals. In-depth interviews with newsmakers in the Internet and IT scene are a favorite feature.
Special supplements and annual editions are published regularly. Besides our Annual issue printed in December every year, we compile one on IT education and careers in spring and one featuring the best Pakistani designers and Web developers titled Best of Pakistan in September. The latter has proven intensely popular over the past three years.
SPIDER's content does not stay constant. It changes keeping in view the trends affecting the Internet the world over. For instance, with continuing emphasis on wireless developments, SPIDER has started a regular column to keep readers up-to-date on mobile computing.
