The votes are in as SPIDER unfolds the Best of Pakistan Website Competition 2002. And the winners are…
Category A: (14-22)
1st Prize
Site on Travel
Ali Imran Kitabi
Age 20 years
Facing tough competition from the second prize winner, Ali's site had finesse and elegance that set it apart from the rest of the entries. Made in Flash, the first time you open the site you are taken aback by the aesthetics and the general layouts. Made in soft green and white with the images of Pakistan being displayed on the screen, the site is worthy of receiving the first prize. Moreover, it also contains all kinds of information, such as geographical as well as historical, about the country. And if you're interested about the web-designer, you can check out his info from the contact icon. Bravo for a job well done!
2nd Prize
Site on Wildlife
Mukarram Khan
Age 21 years
Category A
Mukarram proved to be a tough competition for the 1st prize. Even though his site was simply made in html and Flash wasn't used, the site is mind blowing in terms of concept and aesthetics. The site is about wildlife and hues of brown have been used in the layouts. Graphically, the site is a sight for sore eyes with classically chosen picture. Pros take note. For any good wildlife site, apart from the technical site, the most important element should be the images and how they are positioned, plus how well the images blend in with the entire site. Hats off to Mukarram for a beautiful site.
3rd Prize
Xynosurestudios.com
Zeeshan Syed
Age 22 years
This is yet another amazing site. With extremely well done graphics and layout, the site has what it takes to win a prize. Made in Flash (as seems to be the trend), Xynosure is classy and user-friendly. The moment you enter the site, you're in for the ride of your time. If you like you can turn on or off the funky music and check out various interesting features such as multimedia, communicate and so on.
Consolation Prize
Itravel.com
Abrar Rafique
Age 22 years
This site is on travel and focuses on providing in-depth information about what Pakistan is all about. The layouts are simple yet beautiful. The text is not at all cluttered even though the site is fairly comprehensive.
Runners Up
Panel of Judges
The Best of Pakistan Website Competition was judged by a panel consisting of Enabling Technologies' Jehan Ara and SPIDER's contributing editors Tariq Mustafa (Tee Emm) and Lena Moosa. All the three judges agreed that entries of category-A (age 14-22 years) outshone the entries of B-category in all respects.
Category B (23 and above)
1st Prize
URL: www.geocities.com/mythreedeez
Mohammed Aquil
Age 30 years
Mohammed Aquil's site is made in Flash and displays a very funky image (though it is a bit difficult to see what it truly is). It was relatively easy for the judges to choose this site as #1 since it was technically sound, when compared to other entries, and boasted the use of tools such as Flash, Dreamweaver, 3D studio and so on. Word of advice, one should focus on the clarity of not only the graphic but also the text. And the fine blend of the two is really the secret of a good site.
2nd Prize
URL: www.ipaki.com
Junaid
Age 25 years
This another good site. Although not much has been done from the aesthetic point of view, the site is great for those in search of news and information. The site contains all kinds of interesting features, such as Auction, Greetings, Classified Ads, add your URL and so on. What's more, the website is extremely interactive as it displays interesting topics such as Check your Horoscope, post messages on the board etc. You can also check out car of the month, if you're one of those need for speed (popular video game with lots of sequels) lovers or web sms Insta, Ufone and Mobilink users. In addition to this, you can also get news alerts on your cellphone via this site.
3rd Prize
URL: www.ibaatwork.com
Shuaib Iqbal Nazir
Age 28 Years
By looking at all the entries in the category-B, one might easily assume that the general trend of designing a website is more inclined towards content rather than the entire image of the site itself. Although this is not really the case, but the top three sites in this category work along this very idea. Ibaatwork is a simple yet very comprehensive site about the institution and its alumni network. Here you can get loads of information, check out the students photo albums or just hit the search button in case you're searching for something. Other features of the site include egraduate directories, email, the alumni network and so forth.
