How can I beat spam?
Could you please tell me how to get rid of spam? My e-mail accounts overload with spam every few days, particularly my Hotmail addresses. In the end, I am left with no choice but to create a new account. I am tired of skipping e-mail accounts plus informing friends and associates of my new e-mail address every few months.

Software competition
I like SPIDER but there is one thing missing in your magazine. There should be a column dedicated to upcoming software competitions in Pakistan. You can also arrange your own software competition or programming competition. It should prove more popular than the All Pakistan Software Competition and Exhibition or FAST competition. I would like to know what your readers think of this suggestion.

No back up, PTCL?
It was nice to read the article on "Call Center Cacophony" in SPIDER's October 2002 issue. I was part of the Senior Technical Team working at Support Interactions Inc. In response to the question 'Why did the company close its operations?', I would like to add that one of the major reasons for closing operation is the issue of stability of Communications network (bandwidth on STM1) offered by PTCL. A call center operation is mission critical and you cannot afford the link-down problem, which happens for at least 2-3 hours every month. Lets take a scenario; if one of our Technical Support Agent is providing real-time support to US customers and suddenly the link from PTCL fails for any reason, what kind of reputation we would be generateing then? That customer will never come back. I would request PTCL to make their communication network stable and there should be some sort of fallback situation in case the link fails. It would be better for PTCL engineers to get training on communications equipment from the market or establish a separate lab. Please don't play on actual production equipment as I know its happening.

Showcase young designers
I'm a regular reader of SPIDER and every new edition is more interesting than before. You are doing a fine job. Keep it up! I also wanted to suggest that you should include a section for young Web designers of Pakistan. This way people will come to know about the hidden talents of the country. You can also give a list of top ten personal websites of Pakistani Web designers.

Our Top 5 URLs column highlights websites made in Pakistan and we recently conducted a Web design competition that included a number of fresh, young designers. We can certainly look into conducting a similar exercise for personal pages in the near future.
You have really disheartened me. I sent you an article five times without getting any reply. I have also submitted my website Pakizweb.com on your site but I didn't get any response. May I know whether you people only consider sites which have good awards to their credit? I also entered my site in your Best of Pakistan 2002 contest. At the time of sending this e-mail, I submitted my website for your Top 5 URLs column for the fifth time. If you do not publish my e-mail in the magazine it would further dishearten me.

Shariq, amateurs and professionals alike enter their creations for our Top 5 column as well as our Best of Pakistan competition. If your website did not get listed, there is a chance someone else scored higher on design or content in comparison to your website. We hope printing your letter encourages you to try harder and learn from the winners.

Interactive tips
I am a new reader of your magazine, and I found "Ask Ali" to be a great help. I had mailed my question in this section but it was not answered, maybe due to space constraints in the magazine. Therefore, I suggest that you add a notice board on your new website where anyone can post his or her questions, and invite feedback from readers. You may then choose a few good questions, which Ali can answer.

Music to my ears
I really like your magazine, especially the sections on games and entertainment. Please include more articles on music and the software one uses to listen to them. I use Realplayer to listen to online music. But it does not seem to work properly and I get disturbance listening to a song. Can you tell me the correct procedure for configuring Realplayer and what is the software that you would recommend to listen to online music, that is a .ram file.

We hope to see the day listening to music online would be possible while multitasking. The disturbance maybe due to a faulty connection or noise on your phone line. Try reducing the number of online tasks you are running at the time of listening. RealPlayer is one of the most popular audio software but you can read about others at: www.blackgospel.com/tools/index.htm and www.arp.org/computers-howto/Articles/a2002-07-18-real
IM in Urdu
In a recent issue, you mentioned Meraurdumessenger.com, which is available in market for Rs.35/- on CD. I thought your readers might like to know about Rabwah Urdu Messenger available at:Urdu.keymarina.com/ Rabwah is a freeware and is good for Urdu chat through MSN or a Hotmail address.

A few months back you reviewed the software MUM (Mera Urdu Messenger). At that time, you were right in saying that it was boring because there was no user online and it was really difficult to use. But now this software has improved because eTaleem has added new features such as chatting with your MSN buddies. Please review this software again.
