Dear Editor,
I'm using a Paknet connection and they have restricted access to two major sites that I use for PC2Phone. I want to know why have they done that? If I use Brain.net, I am able to log on to the both sites. Above all, this virtual university www.vu.edu.pk is also not opening whereas all the other sites are accessible.

Cassim.Khan.

According to PTCL, Voice over IP (VoIP) is illegal in Pakistan. We too cannot understand the logic of this. So our guess is that Paknet is probably trying to be a law abiding ISP by blocking access to sites which offer voice based services. We have had no problem accessing the virtual university site. Maybe they or your ISP was having a bad day when you tried!

Dear Editor,
I am a regular reader of your magazine. Why don't you cover Linux Redhat in detail? I want to know how one can install Linux and Windows on the same machine.

Nafees Ahmed.

We do cover Linux as new developments dictate. But being an Internet magazine aimed at ordinary Internet users, detailed treatment of such topics would be far too technical for the vast bulk of our readership. There are some very good websites on the subject that can answer all your questions. Try www.redhat.com for starters.

Dear Editor,
It's really good to see such a fine magazine. I am a regular reader of your magazine and a bookseller. I want to buy all previous issues of SPIDER. How can I get them?

Shahzad Malik.

For past issues, please contact our Circulation department at gm.circ@dawn.com.

Dear Editor,
I have been reading your magazine for the preceding last two years and really find it interesting. I have witnessed the changes you guys have brought about in SPIDER. In the process you have transformed it from a good to an excellent and exemplary magazine. You guys make us Pakistanis proud. Keep up the good work.

Many thanks. We try our best and letters like yours make it all worth it!

Dear Editor,
I have been a regular reader of your extremely helpful and informative magazine. I would like to recommend that you should publish a consolidated handbook of all the web sites and URLs mentioned in your magazine since you started. You can either present it as a gift for your subscribers or charge us for it (both acceptable).

Farhan.

Hmmm… We will have to think about that one. The sites we mention or review are always listed on the SPIDER Website. Isn't that far more useful than cutting down more trees to print yet another handbook!

Dear Editor,
I really love reading SPIDER. Not only am I a regular reader, I have given SPIDER subscription gifts to 5 of my friends. You guys are really working hard to educate us. Is it really possible to make handsome money from Internet and how? I've visited many web sites that offer scams which do not actually work. My friend suggested that I visit www.apnakarobar.com. Please check it and guide me. Are they making real or false statements?

Abid Ashfaque.

Yes it is possible to make money from the Internet. We do it, by publishing a magazine about it ;-) But seriously, having looked up apnakarobar.com, we did not find anything concrete there except an area where they wanted our email address in return of a promise to make us rich! Our suggestion is to be very careful about all get-rich-quick schemes - both on the net and off it.

Dear Editor,
I read your magazine very regularly. It is the best Internet magazine. I am a business man. I tried hard to search foreign parties who are interested to import footballs and gloves. But whenever I search, I cannot find any foreign parties. Maybe my method of searching is not correct. However I have used Google, Altavista, Hotmail, Yahoo, Copernic search engines. I request you to guide me on how to locate foreign buyers of the following goods: Footballs and Gloves.

There are a couple of things that immediately come to mind. First get yourself listed in large sports specific B2B (Business to Business) sites like Sports Business Research Network (www.sbrnet.com). If you search for B2B Sporting Goods (and variations of that) you will find many sites. Secondly, make sure you are listed with the Pakistan Export Promotion Bureau (www.epb.gov.pk). The EPB gets a lot of inquiries from around the world and are paid to help people like you. Take enough time to fill out the forms carefully when listing your company. Also get a Website made, if you don't have one already, and keep it updated.
